Rongai Route Itinerary
8 Days | 7 Nights
The Rongai Route is the only trail on Mount Kilimanjaro that approaches from the north, starting near the Kenyan border. It is the least crowded path to the summit, offering a quiet, remote trekking experience with unique views of the jagged Mawenzi peak and the surrounding plains. Because it lies on the drier, leeward side of the mountain, Rongai is an excellent choice during the rainy season. The route features a gradual, steady ascent, making it physically more manageable than many other routes, though its flatter profile limits the traditional “climb high, sleep low” acclimatization strategy. Typically completed in 6 to 7 days (the 7-day version is strongly recommended for better altitude adaptation), the trail joins the Marangu Route for the final descent. It is ideal for first-time high-altitude trekkers seeking solitude, lower rainfall, and a high summit success rate.
